All In a Day

Wonder what my 3-year-old has been up to? Here's a photo from yesterday.

The bang trim was after he'd spent some time in his room earlier that day. Why did he do time? Because as he had come out of the bathroom, he had announced "Mattie was being mean, so I peed on her shoes." (Well, they were in the bathroom...what would you do?)

Last week I was just thinking how grateful I am that, unlike last summer, this year I've been fortunate enough to have a pretty excrement-free summer. I guess I was a little too grateful a little too soon.

At least he isn't 8-1/2 like my son was when he did that. You can expect hair cutting from a little guy, but not from a big one. (sigh)

He needs to get together with my 3 year old, Ben! Seriously.

I'm going to remember that next time someone ticks me off. Peeing on someone's shoes seems like most excellent revenge!

Your kids should really work on trying to get some expression on their faces instead of always being so...wait. Nevermind.

That reminds me of when I cut my own hair, which made mom really mad, so she told me that I was never allowed to cut my own hair again. So the next day I cut Monica's.

I love the haircut, the pee story just makes it all better. At least he had some thinking logic behind it, it wasn't just a rash decision.

When my middle daughter was about that age she told me that her bangs were in her eyes and I needed to cut them, I said I'd have time that night. Well, that wasn't soon enough for her and she marched downstairs to her play desk and cut them herself. She actually did a pretty good job, just one place WAY too short, but I made sure not to tell her that!!

I remember as a kid watching the miniseries, Shogun. In one scene, the head Shogun forces the English dude (played by Richard Chamberlain) to lie down on the ground and pees on him. So you can see, peeing on other people and their stuff is a ancient and noble tradition. You should be proud.

Why are they called "bangs" anyway?

Love the hair do and the referenced doo-doo.

I found the following on an etymology site. I've always wondered as well...

The term bangs, always used in the plural, is the fringe of hair usually cut squarely across the forehead. According to etymology scholar Robert Barnhart, the term is strictly American in origin (the Brits call it fringe), first surfacing in 1878. It was believed influenced by the adverbial use of bang in the meaning of abruptly, as in hair cut bang off; some sources offer a relation to earlier bangtailed (1861) of a horse's tail that has been cut horizontally across.

Cool info..thanks. I've wondered that before too. I always thought it was some type of slang.

I have to say my kids never did that. The oldest is a freak about his hair, so that's probably why with him. The youngest has always had pretty short hair...although I am very suprised, with his personality, that it never happened.

Not to say it can't happen. Look at Julie's boy. He was 8 1/2! My youngest is 9 1/2. I'm sure there's still time for him to try it. :-)
